Team Size

A team consists of up to six players.  Substitutions are not permitted.

Penalty for bringing an unregistered player to Team Trivia is an automatic zero on that night's quiz, and 10 points subtracted from your overall points.

Quiz Length

Quizzes consist at least 50 questions, divided into five rounds.  Each round has some sort of unifying category.  Each Quiz will feature an audio round, a visual round, and a Social Round.

Social Round

Each week, teams will paired up with another team.  Pairings are decided by table number (there is assigned seating, which changes week to week).  During the Social Round, the two-team combos may discuss the questions and work together to find answers.

Answer Sheets

Your answer sheets must be clearly marked with your team name, and answers written legibly.  The sheets will be gathered after each round and scored by the Quizmasters.  Your team will be given a set amount of answer sheets for each Quiz.  If you like to make notes or write down questions, you may bring your own paper.

Scores & Points

Your Score is what you earn on each Quiz.  Your Cumulative Score is tracked in the Team Standings.

Points are awarded based on your team's rank each week.

  • 1st Place gets 15 Points
  • 2nd Place gets 14 Points
  • ...
  • 15th Place gets 1 Point
  • 16th Place and below get no Points

Overall scoring for the league depends on your Points, not your Cumulative Score.

Playoffs

After the 6th week of regular games, in the 7th week, are the Playoffs.  Every team plays, but only the top 15 teams compete for the Grand Prize.

Questions & Answers: Sources

Thanks to the glorious internet, there are now many, sometimes hundreds of, sources for any single piece of information.  All Team Trivia Quiz Question Answers are from reputable sources, then verified on at least one reputable website.  Only in the unlikely event of a complete mistake will points be awarded for an answer other than the original answer created by the Quizmaster.

Sportsmanship

Just because this is more social than sport, doesn't mean we don't discuss sportsmanship!  Players may not:

  • Use phones, computers, newspapers, or any other items that may have answers.
  • Have phones, computers, newspapers, or any other items that may have answers out or on the table.
  • Yell out answers.
  • Deride another team or the Quizmaster.

Anyone breaking these rules will be removed from the bar.

Each team will be awarded a sportsman ship score following the game.   Teams must have an avg. sportsmanship score of 4.0 at the end of the regular season to participate in the playoffs.  Any team receiving below a 3.5 sportsmanship score will be required to send an email to the league explaining their actions before the team/offending players will be allowed to compete again.  Scores are below:

5.0 – This should be every team’s normal score. All players on the team act with respect towards officials, opposing players, & their teammates. Game well played!
4.0 – Ref has to remind 1 or more players of game conduct & team captain works with refs in resolving issues.   Score will also be awarded if banter between teams could be considered less than friendly.
3.5 – This is the default sportsmanship score for any team forfeiting a game without prior notice.
3.0 – Captain has no control of 1 or more players on their team.  Team member(s) verbally abuse staff or other players but are not ejected.   This is also the score received for using illegal players or purposefully batting out of order.
2.0 – Team has 1 or more members ejected from the field for verbal abuse of staff or other players.  Any ejection will result in a minimum 1 game suspension for offending player(s).
1.0 – Any act of aggression.  Physical contact between players, attempting to cause a fight, approaching staff or other players in an aggressive manner, or anything else deemed to be leading towards an altercation.  Offending players will be ejected immediately, receive a season ban, and must ask for reinstatement at the end of their suspension
..

Tie Scores

In the event of a tie, each team will earn the same number of Points.  If there is a tie that affects the awarding of Weekly Prizes, each tied team must elect a member to answer a single question out loud.  These players may yell out an answer any time after the Quiz Master has begun asking the question, but each player is only allowed to answer once.

Most Importantly

THIS IS A SOCIAL LEAGUE:  Have fun and make new friends.  The quiz may or may not go your way, but the beer is still cold and cheap!
