Bar Fun...

One of the things that draw people to playing with New York City Social Sports Club is our post-game parties. This is where the REAL socializing happens. Each sport has its own Sponsor Bar that offers us drink and food specials that regular patrons don't have access to. We also get a dedicated space to play our hearts out on whatever drinking game you can conjure in your social sports mind! And trust me... I've seen/been part of many wacky fun ones that I'd never heard of before! Some of our Teams make up their own games and get everyone else involved... After a recent night of Playoffs with Winter's Thursday Flag Football League, we all headed back to the bar as they did every week. Little Giants (orange), Charles Bronson (red), 4Play Thursdays (sport grey), The Playbook of Eli (white), The Abusement Park (heliconia), Still TD Bangin (sapphire), Blacks and Yellows (black), and some of our Refs were able to give me some great examples of how they play the various games of Flip Cup, Beer Pong and Civil War so that I may share them all with you. Let's take a look at some of the fun we had...
Now, wouldn't you like to join them? All you have to do is sign up for any League with us!
Making the Catch
Many passes in a Football game sometimes go uncaught down field. And, this is no exception with our Flag Football Leagues!
However, these Thursday players from Charles Bronson (red), Still TD Banging (sapphire), and Little Giants (orange) can show you how it can be done successfully!
Or almost caught by Blacks and Yellows (black)...

Take notes... You may be quizzed or tested (especially if you sign up for one of our amazingly fun leagues)!
Look at That Throw!
With a throw like this from one member of Thursday Flag Football team Blacks and Yellows (black), it is no wonder they are currently in the top position as the only undefeated team this season:

The Stand Off

The Stand Off - it's a face to face competition as old as time itself (or at least as old as Football, even in it's primitive infancy). Two people on the front lines - the Quarterback and the Rusher - each one waiting for just the right moment.
Here, the QB from Blacks and Yellows (Black) waits for that magic moment when the pass path becomes clear and certain. The rush man from You Got Served (Military) waits hopping in anticipation for the 5-second count to be done so he can put the hurt on the other guy.
Which one is gonna walk away smiling and which is gonna have to regroup and formulate a new strategy?

Let's Hear It For the Girls
We all know the song... "This is a man's world. But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or girl." It probably wasn't written about Flag Football but James Brown's lyrics could certainly apply.
Being a female football player, you get used to hearing the reaction people (that is, people outside our NYC Social community) can sometimes have when a woman says she plays football. The conversation usually goes something like this:
"Football? As in soccer?"
"No, football as in football"
"Like, with other girls?"
"Yes, and guys too."
*Blank stare*
But as the ladies at our Tuesday Flag Football playoffs demonstrated, they're often the crucial key to a team's success. Yes, these ladies can throw, catch, juke, pull flags, and run routes just as well as the boys. Our top teams, The Dirty Dozen (Sport Grey), Black and Yellows (Black), Ice Ice Baby (Light Blue), and winners BC Football (Kelly) showed us that when a team strikes the right balance, they can play one heck of a game.

Sure, the Spice Girls might not have lasted long, but they were really onto something with that whole "Girl Power" thing!
So let's take a minute and appreciate these ladies who can bring it on the field, go toe to toe with the guys, and look great doing it.

You go girls (*snaps*)!
Many Different Types of ...ception

That's right, there are so many different ways to ...ception each other, and when done properly they all have a little something that makes everyone go, "Hmm, yes, I like that." There's inception, and the always popular deception, and the inevitable exception, and the cerebral intraception, but none of them hold the spark of our very favorite interception.
And that's what this guy from Blacks and Yellows (Black) is doing amidst this wonderful jump catch. Interception at it's finest; a pass meant for the Baby Makers (Daisy) winds up in the hands of this high-flying, black-shirted jumper. Maybe this falls under the category of deception as well.
