Some people like to spend their Tuesday nights inside, on the couch, munching on chips and playing video games. Other people, like our Tuesday soccer teams, prefer to come out to the Chinatown YMCA and play like real-life video game characters. High jumping, fast running, and hard kicking; these athletes sometimes get caught in unbelievable positions.
Take this Thunder Down Under (Red) player for example as she challenges Sonic the Hedgehog:

Or her goalkeeper teammate who seems to be re-enacting a battle from Street Fighter:

And these two from Bump and Rub (Royal) and Pommes Frites (Orange) are fighting for that header like they came straight out of FIFA 98 (ok full disclosure, I stopped playing video games once Super Nintendo went out of style, so that's the best I got):

I just hope seeing these players in action might inspire people to put down that controller and pick up your laptop to sign up for one of our leagues. Come on, it's way more fun in real life after all.
We're psyched this fall to see the large number of teams and free agents that have signed up for our NYC Social Fall Flag Football season. Not only does it mean people are getting out and having fun with new friends, but it also means they're being active and staying off that couch. More teams, however, means more tee shirt colors. Luckily, NYC Social has a vast wealth of shirt colors to draw on. And we're not just talking about "red" or "black" or "yellow". Oh no, the colors of the NYC Social Tees have much more creative and descriptive names. Since not all our athletes took a Color 101 in college, we often encounter questions like "What the heck is Heliconia?". So, for the sake of our players (new and old) we present you with a description of some of our most obscure shirt colors:
"Orange" vs. "Texas Orange"
"Knock knock"
"Who's there?"
"Orange"
"Orange Who?"
"Orange you glad I'm showing you these pictures of East Dillon Lions (Orange) and TDs are Big (Texas Orange) to show you the difference between these colors?!"

Lime
A great compliment to a Corona, a necessary step after taking a tequila shot, and the lovely bright greenish color of Weight Watchers

Blue Dusk
More than just your run-of-the-mill "Blue", Bump and Rub rocks the color of the sky right after sunset. Sigh, how romantic...

Sapphire
This is an easy color for me to remember because it was almost my birthstone. Instead, my sister was the one who got all the pretty blue jewelry while I had to get stupid Opal. Ok ok, fine Opal is still pretty cool. But just look how good Hedgehogs look in their Sapphire shirts!

Whatever color shirt you're rocking this season, best of luck out there and have fun!
Looks like somebody takes what Action Weekly says to heart! We're flattered that these members of Bump and Rub (Blue Dusk) clearly read our "Fear the Beard" post about the impact good facial hair can have on your football game. I mean, why else would they show up to Monday's Flag Football games in Chelsea this week with these sweet accessories?

Whether or not I can take credit for it, Bump and Rub still came away with a win and, more importantly, a reputation for being a team that knows how to rock a moustache and beard.
