Team Trivia player on Jeopardy!!

When I arrived at Aces & Eights UES on Tuesday for Trivia Playoffs, I made sure to come extra early to watch Jeopardy.  Amy from the #1 ranked team in the league (including both Team Trivia divisions), Not Smarter Than A 5th Grader, was on!  As a reigning champion, no less!

She taped the episode in December…and it just happened to be airing the night of the playoffs.  We stood around the bar, cheering her on (although she already knew the outcome).   It was her second day on the show, but she lost to some jerk documentarian.  No offense to him.

Some of the teams started to feel a little worried about a Jeopardy champ on the #1 team as the Quiz began.  But as luck would have it, 5th Grader didn’t place…

The Iceman Cometh

4408523954_4737b5c7ac_mAs players walked off the ice at Wollman Rink in Prospect Park this past Tuesday evening, you could sense something in the air.  Maybe it was just the fact that Phil Collins was hammering out a mean drum solo on my i-pod, but there was a feel of magic that surrounded this final night of Social Broomball for the Winter Season.  This tight-knit group of ice-warriors had endured yet another season together, and though some teeth had gone missing, and a few bones had been rather misplaced, it was a victory for everyone involved.

Dodge Podge

4396745775_7125c09487_mEmotions ran high as dodgeballers threw, blocked, and, of course, dodged in front of a packed house at St. Patrick’s Youth Center on February 24.


“That was intense!” exclaimed Kersten of Dodge Mahal after her team, Dodge Mahal, eeked out a victory over Hoof-hearted.  The game came down to a one-on-one showdown, but Kersten was most proud of the fact that Dodge Mahal was working better as a unit.  “We’re a getting a lot better at communicating.  Now if we could just play some defense.”
